What "cheapest path" means (and why it matters)
Most recipe sites show you a final combination — "X + Y makes the item" — and stop there. That hides the real cost: if X itself takes 12 crafts to build, that "simple" recipe is actually a 13-craft project. We compute the total crafts from the four starting elements for every known combination, then show you the cheapest one first, with every intermediate step in dependency order. Each recipe page also lists ranked alternatives with their real cost, so you can pick the route that fits the inventory you already have. Paths are recomputed against the community dataset (MIT-licensed, millions of crowd-sourced combinations) — last verified October 2026.
